Letter: Ill intent? (September 10, 2017)
I continue to be amazed at the number of people willing to display their lack of knowledge of how free enterprise economics works, and how their expressed viewpoint is right in line with government abuse of power.
It was and is the Town of Apple Valley that has shown ill intent in its hostile takeover of Liberty Utilities. Why should Liberty negotiate with the Town of Apple Valley to sell its company that is, by the way, not for sale? Especially when that puts Liberty out of business!
It is not that certain that the town will be successful in this hostile takeover, and as I have said on numerous occasions; even if successful, the town ratepayers and citizens of Apple Valley will lose millions of dollars, and be burdened with a huge additional debt. That is the one statement in the recent letter that is correct. All this effort with no possibility of water rates coming down.
