Ranchos Water Co. half done with Yermo improvement work

YERMO — A $585,000 water main construction project to connect two water systems is underway by Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company.

The project is part of a $703,000 infrastructure improvement plan since the water company purchased Yermo water Company for $300,000 in August. Shortly after the purchase, the company pledged to invest $1.1 million in initial capital improvements. The company is also pursuing grant money to replace aging and inadequate infrastructure.

Apple Valley Ranchos Water Company construction coordinator Mike Lent says the project is half done and should be finished by Christmas.

According to company press release, installation began on the north side of Yermo Road at Frontier Street and is headed east to Dividing Line Road.

‘This project will provide improved system reliability by connecting the existing two separate water systems,’ the company said. This is the first of several planned infrastructure improvement projects that will bring the entire system into compliance with current Federal, State and local standards, Ranchos Operations Superintendent Carol Thomas-Keefer said.

The release said that nearly 4,700 feet of 12-inch ductile iron pipe and five fire hydrants will be installed.
