Letter: Wasting our money (September 3, 2015)

While Apple Valley tries unsuccessfully to use eminent domain to take over a privately-owned water system, taxpayers are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to cover legal expenses — and for what? The simple fact is that the Town Council has no idea what the real cost for the water system will be.

The city of Felton bought out its water supplier to the tune of two and a half times what it claimed the cost would be. Now residents are paying an extra $500 in property taxes for the next 30 years. The Town Council has already proven their willingness to undersell and overpay on major projects; just look at the golf course, which continues to be a massive burden on taxpayers.
