Pretense and hypocrisy (April 29, 2016)

A big thanks go out to Apple Valley Town councilman Art Bishop for providing such a blatant example of hypocrisy in government that none could fail to appreciate it (Frontier customers go to town, Daily Press, April 27).

Bishop has argued at length in support of the Town’s insane jihad against our water company, in part because residents are upset with water bills. Not the service itself, mind you, just the fact that they have to pay for the water they are using, despite having decided to use that water. By remarkable coincidence, the Town also has complained about having to pay its fair share, while making decision after decision to increase water use. And what of the hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxes and franchise fees paid by Liberty Apple Valley? Those are of little moment: The people must be heard! There’s no need for conservation, because the Town will protect us.

When it comes to Frontier Communications, residents are being asked to continue paying for services that are no longer being rendered. Again they appeal to Town Hall, but this time there’s a difference. Town Hall gets free cable service from Frontier, so as it turns out, there’s nothing to be done to improve the lot of the rate payers. Besides, Frontier pays taxes and franchise fees, so the recommendation seems to be to wait by your non-working phone for Councilman Bishop to call with word that you’re on your own.
